Hemophilia is a disorder that affects the way your blood clots. This genetic disorder can cause people to bleed for a longer period of time after an accident or injury and may also lead to internal bleeding. The disease typically occurs in males.
Since hemophilia is caused by a defect in one of the genes that determines how the body makes certain blood-clotting factors, treatment will involve replacing the missing clotting factors; this is known as replacement therapy.
