Generic Name for Lovenox

If you have blood clots or need to prevent them, your healthcare provider may prescribe
Lovenox® (enoxaparin sodium). This medication can also help prevent complications in people who have had certain cardiac events, such as a heart attack or chest pain.

This prescription blood thinner is not currently available in generic form. Enoxaparin is the active ingredient and also the "generic name" of Lovenox; it is not the "generic version" of the drug. Once the patents for brand-name Lovenox expire, generic versions of the medication may be available.

Although most people tolerate this medication well, it is not suitable for everyone. Possible side effects include bleeding, anemia, and low blood platelets.
