Available only with a prescription, Lovenox
® (
enoxaparin sodium) is a drug used to treat and prevent blood clots. It can also prevent certain complications after
heart attacks (or other similar heart-related events).
As a blood-thinning drug, Lovenox works by preventing the formation of clots (or the growth of existing clots). This allows the body to break down the clots naturally. Lovenox comes in the form of injections that are given once or twice daily just under the skin (subcutaneously).
Although most people tolerate Lovenox well, it is not suitable for everyone. Before starting treatment with this blood-thinning drug, its warnings and precautions should be fully reviewed with your healthcare provider. For example, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medical conditions you may have and any other medications you are taking.
