Lovenox Drug Interactions

Other Medications That "Thin" the Blood
Other medications that have anticoagulant, antiplatelet, or thrombolytic effects may increase the risk of bleeding with Lovenox. Always check with your healthcare provider before combining Lovenox with any such medication. Sometimes, these medications (especially thrombolytics, aspirin, or warfarin) are combined with Lovenox intentionally.

Additional Information and Notable Exceptions

Lovenox does not interact with vitamin K or foods rich in vitamin K. People often mistakenly assume that it does, because warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®), an oral anticoagulant, interacts with vitamin K. Of course, you must still follow the usual dietary restrictions if you are taking warfarin and Lovenox together. However, if you are taking just Lovenox, there are no dietary restrictions.

Lovenox does not interact with acetaminophen (Tylenol®). Therefore, acetaminophen is usually the preferred over-the-counter pain or fever medication for people taking Lovenox.

It should be noted that herbal medications might interact unpredictably with Lovenox, perhaps increasing the risk of bleeding or perhaps making Lovenox less effective. Therefore, check with your healthcare provider before combining any herbal medication with Lovenox.

Final Thoughts

It is possible that not all drug interactions with Lovenox were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any specific drug interactions that may apply to you.
