Blood Home > Generic Argatroban

Generic Availability

The generic versions of argatroban are made by two different companies, including:
  • Eagle Pharmaceuticals, Inc., which makes argatroban 1 mg per mL in 50-mL vials
  • Sandoz, Inc., which makes argatroban 1 mg per mL in 125-mL vials.
These generics are ready to use; they do not require dilution.
GlaxoSmithKline's argatroban comes in a different strength (100 mg per mL, in a 2.5-mL vial) that must be diluted prior to use.
Many would argue that the ready-to-use generic forms are more convenient and result in less waste, compared to the GlaxoSmithKline version (which is more expensive). However, as of late 2011 and early 2012, there is a shortage of the generic versions.
