Fragmin Medication Information

Fragmin® (dalteparin sodium) is available only by prescription and is approved for treating and preventing blood clots in certain situations. This "blood thinner" is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing Fragmin.

Although many people do not have any problems while using this medicine, Fragmin can cause side effects, such bleeding, bruising, and pain at the injection site. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.

This drug comes in the form of injections and is administered once or twice daily. The injections are typically given just under the skin in the fatty layer on the abdomen (the "stomach" area), upper thigh, or buttocks.

(Click Fragmin for more information on this medication. This article covers how it works, lists additional side effects, and offers some safety precautions to be aware of before beginning treatment.)
