Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Combining NSAIDs with pralatrexate may increase the level of pralatrexate in the blood, potentially causing toxicity. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking an NSAID during treatment, even nonprescription NSAIDs.
Probenecid can affect the way the kidneys and the body handle pralatrexate. This could cause an accumulation of pralatrexate in the bloodstream, possibly leading to toxicity. Check with your healthcare provider before using these medications together.
Combining salicylates with pralatrexate may increase the level of pralatrexate in the blood, potentially causing toxicity. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking a salicylate during treatment. However, the use of low-dose salicylates, or "baby" aspirin, to protect against heart attacks and strokes is not likely to be a concern.
Pralatrexate may decrease blood levels of sapropterin, potentially making the drug less effective. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction if you take both of these medicines.
Sipuleucel-T may be less effective when combined with pralatrexate. Talk to your healthcare provider about this possible interaction before using these drugs together.
Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim may decrease the amount of pralatrexate removed from the body by the kidneys. This could cause an accumulation of pralatrexate in the blood, potentially leading to toxicity. Talk to your healthcare provider before using these medicines together.
Chemotherapy medicines, including pralatrexate, have been reported to increase and decrease the effects of warfarin. Because of these variable effects, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely by checking your prothrombin time ("protime" or PT) and international normalized ratio (INR) when you first start or stop using pralatrexate.
