Thalassemia and Who It Affects

Alpha thalassemia mainly affects people of Southeast Asian, Indian, Chinese, or Filipino descent. Beta thalassemia mainly affects people of Mediterranean, Greek, Italian, Middle Eastern, Asian, or African descent.
 
Thalassemia affects both males and females, and the disease is always inherited (passed from parents to children through their genes).
